Oh No, I’ve Been Reading Again, Countering the Talking Points

Yep. I have. What I’ve been reading is that it is time for Democrats, or Progressives, or whatever you want to call them to change the narrative. If you are objective, you have to admit that the Republican party controls the narrative completely. The rest of us end up trying to convince them how they are wrong and wrong headed.

That is a losing proposition. It simply won’t work and the sooner we figure that out, the better we all will be.

We try to change their minds with logic, science, or common sense. It doesn’t work. Don’t try. I’m sad to say I’m just as guilty as anyone, maybe even more guilty. I eased up just a little in 2017. Instead of arguing, I simply just trolled the worst offenders. I offered no arguments. I just kept repeating my idiotic comments. An example, when one said something about Hillary Clinton several times, I would respond “what’s up with you and Hillary? The election is over. Get over it.”

Of course they responded with, “But Hillary…….” I said, “There you go again. You must really have thing for her because you mention her in every post.” And, on and on and on. Usually they got very apoplectic about the whole thing, and it usually went on for a while.

It was fun, and I had a great time. But, I didn’t change anyone’s thinking. I’ve eased up on that this year and started a new tactic. I think it may work.

We have to change the narrative. It’s simple if we are disciplined to stay on message like the Republicans do.

I am posting the “how-to’s” of this. I would like everyone to try it. All of you who do will be my laboratory to see if this will actually work.

For now, I want to explain how this will work. I will use some common Republican talking points to illustrate the concept, followed bay a few talking points of my own.

Here are examples:
Don’t say:
The American Dream. Often used by Conservatives or Republicans to illustrate what is preferred by the constituency. It often means getting a good job, buying a home, or getting back to a simpler time. (i.e. single wage earner, stay at home moms, picnics, etc.)

Use this instead. Don’t try to counter the above point. Don’t even repeat their statement or talking point.

American ideals. Use this instead. This implies basic fairness to all and not giving certain groups (wealthy and corporations) unfair tax breaks or advantages. Helping those who are not as well off as others. Working together, and not always getting everything that we want, but everyone getting something. Freedom to choose. Protecting the under represented.

Don’t say, or even repeat.
Reducing the power of Unions. Unions are ruining the country. Why should some union boss tell you where to work and how to work.

Use this instead. Don’t try to counter the above point. Don’t even repeat their statement or talking point.

Eliminate Corporate Servitude. In order to have a free economy, things must be balanced. Corporations have a right to try to make a profit, so, do workers. It is a partnership, a give and take. Both sides have the right to bargain for the best deal. Corporations are hiring more part time workers than ever in order to avoid negotiated benefits. They require you to check emails, texts and phone calls when you are not working. In other words, they are infiltrating your entire life. Workers should be paid for their work. It’s only fair. Use this instead of favoring Unions

Employer paid Insurance (or Benefits): Self explanatory

Say this instead.
Worker earned Insurance (or Benefits)
Use this instead. Don’t try to counter the above point. Don’t even repeat their statement or talking point.

Now, how do you use these concepts?
You are for strong American Ideals, the ideas that America was founded on and have served us well for over 200 years. We need a level playing field for all. We are strongest when we all work together. We need to look out for each other.

The government is created to protect the citizens from danger, both foreign and domestic.
Don’t elaborate. You shouldn’t be required to work and not get paid for it, unless it is your choice. Do you need a raise?

Don’t elaborate. Stick to the talking points.

It may take a while, but try using these few and come up with more. I know you can. Let me know what happens with your new talking points.
